Descripción Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. First impression of the first UK edition, published in 1970. This first UK edition, published in 1970, is a revised and expanded version of the book that was first published in the USA in 1969 as "Notebook 1967-1968". With a Note to the New Edition by Robert Lowell at the back of the book. ***Very good in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright. The boards would have been described as near fine except, st some point, the back board has been affected by water and there is a stain at the top of the back board slightly affecting the top of the spine. However, this fortunately doesn't affect the interior of the book. Head and tail of spine not bumped. No creasing. Corners sharp. Spine tight. Internally the book is near fine with no inscriptions or annotations, just a very small stain at the top corner of p.112. No foxing. No creasing. Pages clean. Spine tight. ***In a very good typographical dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, showing the original publisher's dual price of 45s / £2.25 net. The dustwrapper is complete with absolutely no loss - no creases or tears. No fading. No edge wear. No chips or tears. However, as with the boards, the back panel is wrinkled and discoloured at the top due to exposure to water. There is also some slight browning at the edges of the back panel. (please see scans) ***224mm x 145mm. 265 pages. ***'The first edition of "Notebook - 1967-1968" was published in the United States in May 1969 and a second, containing certain changes from the first, in July 1969. In this new edition about a hundred of the original poems have been changed and many new ones have been added. Mr. Lowell has added an explanatory note about these alterations at the end of the book.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***'Robert Traill Spence Lowell IV (March 1, 1917 - September 12, 1977) was an American poet. He was born into a Boston Brahmin family that could trace its origins back to the Mayflower. His family, past and present, were important subjects in his poetry. Growing up in Boston also informed his poems, which were frequently set in Boston and the New England region. The literary scholar Paula Hayes believes that Lowell mythologized New England, particularly in his early work. After the publication of his 1959 book "Life Studies", which won the 1960 National Book Award and "featured a new emphasis on intense, uninhibited discussion of personal, family, and psychological struggles," he was considered an important part of the confessional poetry movement. However, much of Lowell's work, which often combined the public with the personal, did not conform to a typical "confessional poetry" model. Instead, Lowell worked in a number of distinctive stylistic modes and forms over the course of his career. He is "widely considered one of the most important American poets of the postwar era." His biographer Paul Mariani called him "the poet-historian of our time" and "the last of (America's) influential public poets.""' (Wiki) ***First impression of the first UK edition of "Notebook" by Robert Lowell, in very nice internal condition, but with some water staining to the boards and dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Nº de ref. del artículo: 8510
