Otro error no menos grave, aunque ya mil veces refutado, es el de fijarse sólo en el nombre de Reforma, y considerarla como una protes ta contra los abusos y escándalos de la Iglesia, cuando, lejos de atajar nin guno, vino a acrecentarlos y a traer otros nuevos e inauditos. Que la Iglesia y las costumbres no estaban bien a fines del siglo XV y prin cipios del XVI, verdad es, aunque harto triste, y nunca lo han nega do los escritores católicos, aunque en el señalar las causas haya al guna diversidad.
