Tan, textured paper over boards, with titling in black on spine, and with historical woodcut on front cover; thin, gray paper dustjacket with similar design on spine & front panel, publication notices on back panel. Covers show age-related tanning, tanning to page margins; spine of dustjacket is mostly chipped apart, wear & chipping to dustjacket edges, with tanning, and brittleness present. Traces history of woodcuts, modern illustrators (Aubrey Beardsley, and others). Features a number of 19th century classic paintings, designs, here rendered as woodcuts, with the author/artist's notes in the index; a neglected pictorial source. Text in in German.
