First Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Very good book in a good unclipped dust jacket. The purple cloth book has spots of tape removal on front and back panels and an embossed library stamp to the title page. The first state jacket with only contents on the back panel and no reviews listed and priced at $5.95 to lower front flap has a small loss to the upper front panel and chipping and loss to the edges. Also includes The Noble Savage Magazine (#3, 1961) which includes the Pynchon titled short story "Under the Rose" a considerably different version of chapter 3 in the published novel. The short story describes the same scenes as Chapter 3 of the novel but from the viewpoint of different characters. Auspicious debut and winner of the William Faulkner Foundation award.
