**1ST EDITION ** ORIGINAL 1779 EDITION ** COMPLETE IN 2 VOLUMES ** QUARTER-BOUND IN LEATHER ** CLEAN, STAIN-FREE, UNMARKED ** COMPLETE AND INTACT ** NOT LIBRARY BOOKS ** Published by Chez Pissot, Amsterdam et se trouve a Paris, in 1779, with 1,091 total pages (467 pp + 624 pp). NOTE: The photos you can access with this listing are of the actual books you will be sent; please examine them closely as they provide the best indication of condition. Books are quarter-bound in leather over marbled boards, with marbled end-papers, and with four raised bands on the spine of each, spines with elaborate gilt decorations and lettering. The books are quite clean and stain-free, pages are surprisingly well-preserved and free of foxing. Both books are square and straight, firm and tight in their bindings, no pages are loose or missing, text-blocks are unbroken and firmly snugged to the backstrips. Interior hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are unbumped. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings in either book. The exterior front hinge (joint) on Volume II, and to a lesser extent, the rear exterior hinge on Volume I, are starting to separate from the top down about 2 inches, but the boards are still well-attached, and the damage has not carried through to the interior hinges. The boards show wear at the edges and surface rubbing, but the books otherwise have no significant flaws.
