8vo. 119pp. Bound in pictorial cloth with pictorial dust wrapper. Illustrated with twelve original lithographs by William Scott. The lithographs were printed W.S. Cowell. Anthology of poems selected and with an introduction by Patric Dickinson. Includes works by W.H. Auden, G.K. Chesterton, T.S. Eliot, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling, C. Day Lewis, Herman Melville, Siegfried Sassoon, Wallace Stevens, Dylan Thomas, Walt Whitman, W.B. Yeats, and numerous others. Gift inscription on front end paper dated 1946. Dust wrapper missing most of the original spine, badly frayed with pieces missing, torn along both hinges. Cover has a small damp stain on back cover at top right corner with a slight red diiscolouration. Inside throughout, the paper has ruckled indicating of being damp, mainly along the top edged. Still a very acceptable copy of a rare book. Size 195 x130mm (8.75 x 5.25 inches) Published just after the Second World War, Frederick Muller published a sereis of seven volumes all illustrated by young upcoming artists including the painter Willim Scott, all relating to their war time experiences.
