Illustrated with color frontispiece, 2 plates, numerous photo lithographs, and folding map. 340 pages. The first trade edition. Winner of the inaugural USGA Amateur in 1895 (after losing twice in 1894 at Newport CC and St. Andrew's GC), Macdonald was a larger than life figure in early US golf. Educated at St. Andrews, Scotland, he watched the golfing greats of the 1860's and '70's play & subsequently learned to play the game there. Consequently, upon returning, he probably knew far more about golf than any other American at the time. He designed the first eighteen-hole course in the US for the Chicago Golf Club at Wheaton, IL and designed the masterpieces of National Golf Links, Lido, Piping Rock, Yale, Creek Club, and Mid-Ocean.This is his autobiography. A very nice copy of one of the classic books on golf course architecture and early American golf. Bound in publisher's original bright red cloth with gilt lettering on the front panel and spine. Very slight darkening to spine, light rubbing upper gutter edge. Cover corners and spine ends in very good condition. No shelf wear. No owner name or bookplate, the end papers and pastedowns are unmarked. Contents bright and clean without foxing, marginalia, underlining, soiling, staining, creases, or tears. Protected with mylar cover. Murdoch #475, D & M #24770. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. N° de ref. del artículo 204853
