Bound in full, light brown, polished calf by Riviere & Son, with their stamp in the lower left on the reverse of the front endpaper; with five raised bands on spine, red and green morocco leather title labels, gilt-lettered with title, author's name, 1844 on the lower spine, with gilt floral tooling, triple-line gilt borders around the covers, gilt dentelles on the inner leather turn-ins, top-edge gilt, headbands, dark blue coated-paper endpapers; with engraved, heraldic bookplate on the inner front paste-down: E. Peter Jones. The cover corners show rubbing, with small area of leather rubbed off the upper front cover corner, light rubbing to cover edges; a few of the plate margins show light tan spotting, as do some of the text page margins.
