New York: The Letter Edged in Black Press, Inc., 1968. Small portfolio. The second installment in this series by artist, publisher and writer William Copley (1919-1996), the second of six such portfolios containing artwork from diverse artists, from LaMonte Young, Man Ray, and John Cage to Roy Lichtenstein. Copley conceived the SMS series as a protest against what he saw as the inordinate power and control that art galleries had over artists' work, and were were designed to serve as a way for artists to distribute their work directly to collectors. This copy LACKS some items including the small Marcel Duchamp record and the mock New York Times newspaper called for. Please refer to photographs for the items present. Laid in, but not called for, are five glossy black and white photographs of the items contained in SMS No. 1 and No. 2, and a three page letter from the publisher discussing the artists featured in each issue.
