VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "Olive Roscoe" By Evelyn Everett-Green. This book is believed to be the First Edition, published by T. Nelson & Sons, 1896. 12mo, 19.3 cm x 13.5 cm x 4.3 cm, Blue cloth-covered bevelled boards, Gilt & green embossed lettering & decoration on spine & front cover, Clear embossed publisher's logo on back cover, All edges gilt, Dark green end papers, no dust-jacket. 420 pages. Weight: 775 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there are several cracks in between pages throughout the book. Spine is discoloured & worn, bumped, scuffed & faded either end, gilt & decoration fully visible but dull & worn away in places. Cover is slightly marked, grubby round edges, discoloured, gilt & decoration quite bright, edges worn, bumped & faded. Corners are bumped & scuffed, 2 are frayed with boards exposed there. Outer edges scratched, gilt quite bright. End papers & pastedowns slightly rubbed. Remnants of paper stuck to front pastedown. School ink stamp on reverse of title page. A few pages inc. plates have tiny edge bumps/nicks, and/or smudges/marks mostly in margins, and/or corner folds/creases, and/or creasing alongside spine and/or top margin, and/or light handling creases. Pages 92 & 93 have small stain over but not obscuring text. Pages 117/118 & 153/154 have a large diagonal fold which is imprinted on adjacent pages. Illustration plate facing p. 112 is creased at the top. Some plates slightly marked on reverse. Last few pages have indents in bottom margin. Light age tanning & rare foxing throughout.
