The Mystic Masseur, V.S.Naipaul, Andre Deutsch, 1960, First Edition Second Print The first novel from the highly acclaimed author, first published in 1957, is a comic novel set in colonial Trinidad about a young man of Indian descent trying to move himself out of his empoverished upbringing and turn himself into a successful politician. Winner of the Booker Prize in 1971 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001, he had also been knighted in 1990. This first edition second impression is in very good plus / approaching near fine condition, absolutely excellent for its age. The binding is tight and straight, the boards faultless and the endpapers and pages clean without marks, tears or inscriptions. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear removable cover, is clean and bright with the tiniest bit of wear to the top and bottom of the spine and a little darkening to the cream rear.
