Fine/None. First French Edition, Ltd edition #822 of 1300. Light brown wraps with blue and tan cover design, lettering and Rackham illustration on front cover, with gilt lettering and rules, with 16 coloured plates mounted on cream paper inside tan rules and gilt border, lettered tissue guards, all by Rackham. In addition, there are the 24 B&W vignettes in the English edition, plus additional vignettes found only in this edition. This copy is also housed in a black buckram clamshell box with a grey leather spine label and gilt lettering. One of Rackham's delightful series of ballad books, this French edition being different than the English one in pagination, design and content (while Paul Forte translated many from the English edition, additional ones were added, making this a truly separate issue.) This copy is in fine condition, with minimal apparent use and the covers still attached and the binding firm. The printed wraps are also covered by a thin white glassine wrapping (complete with no tears), further protecting the book, and the clamshell box adds the last and strongest part of protection. There are no prior owner marks and no faxing, making this a highly desirable copy. A highly collectable copy of a delightful and special Rackham item.
