A journalist, court reporter, world traveler, and film maker Estelle Ryan Snyder (1874-1949), published two books, of which this is the first, the other being a book on ocean travel to Europe called The Land Across the Sea (1913). In 1910 she served as an editor for Vital Topics magazine, a short-lived Chicago publication and in 1913 was elected treasurer of the Illinois Woman?s Press Association. By 1930 she had moved to Los Angeles and a 1932 article in the Los Angeles Times announced that Snyder was speaking at a screening at a local college of a motion picture called ?Tragic Africa? which she had filmed herself. About this book: Snyder traveled to the West in 1905 under the auspices of the National Editorial Association and wrote about her observations. The book is introduced by Caroline A. Huling, a journalist and reformer who was co- founder of the Illinois Woman?s Press Association. She reports on what she saw in Oklahoma, Texas, a dip into Mexico, Arizona, California (including the Los Angeles area, San Francisco, and Sacramento), the Shasta Route, Oregon, Utah, The Lewis and Clark Exposition, and Colorado, among other places. A must have for anyone collecting early U.S. travel literature by women. NOTE: This is the original first edition published in 1905 and NOT one of the later reprints. N° de ref. del artículo 009172
