Stated first edition hardcover, sewn-bound in black cloth, with gilt lettering and decoration on spine, is in GOOD condition, having a slight slant to spine; covers have very faint rubbing/scuffing; former owner notated apparently some page numbers in ink on first free endpaper, and also highlighted some text in yellow, and made occasional markings in margins. Dust jacket, enclosed in protective mylar (mylar not pictured), is in FAIR condition, having chipping to top and bottom spine; tears to top folds, some edgewear, rubbing/scuffing to surface. Book focuses on seven encounters between Native Americans and European settlers, and provides critical analysis of the violent encounters. The encounters are: Cheyenne Fork, the Fetterman Disaster, Hayfield, Rosebud, Major Reno's Skirmish Lines in the Valley, Heck Reel's Wagon Train, the Buckskin Lodge at Slim Buttes.
