Monaghan, Lincoln Bibliography, Volume 1, p. 241, # 942: "Advance sheets of this [Power's Monumental Edition], F[ish] 762, dated 1874, were bound in glazed paper.". Bound copy of the printed, dark brown glazed paper covers and the advance sheets: front cover with illustration of the monument and copyright notice, with "Prospectus of the Life of Abraham Lincoln, Monumental Edition" on the reverse of the front cover, printed title page, with beginning of Chapter XXIII, and illustration of vault, (pp. [223-224]), followed by pages numbered: 225-256, with ten illustrations, including plans, etc., inserted publisher's rebate ticket present, advertisement for Eigth Annual Reunion of the Society of the Army of the Tennessee, on inner surface of back cover, glazed paper back cover with printed Program for dedication of the monument on October 15, 1874. The pamphet has been bound into a 5 3/4 in. x 8 1/2 in. octavo volume of over 200 blank pages of thin paper, with a dark brown composition leather spine and corner-pieces (this spine has nearly completely deteriorated, and has been covered over with a brown cloth tape, exposing a gilt title, reading: [P]rospectus o[f] the Life of [Abr]aham Lincoln [Monu]mental Editio[n] By [John] Carroll Powe[r] [Ad]vance Sheets [Issu]ed Nov. 1, 1874 By [Ed]win A. Wilson & Co. [Sprin]gfield, Ill.; with marbled paper covered boards, floral printed endpapers. The volume shows much wear, with damage to the repaired spine, the inner front hinge is split, and an early attempt at repair has caused 4 inches of the upper left-hand edge of the glazed paper front cover to stick to the fragile endpaper, and this front cover has split away from the text (this requires restoration by an expert paper restorer), the titlepage shows an inked, circled number: (14), pages show various degrees of tanning, chipping to upper corners (at pp. 239-240), light creases to upper corners. This is a rare and fragile item, if the quality of the binding has been better, it would have survived in much better condition than it has. The pamphlet and/or the binding require restoration. The scan shows the printed titlepage, and part of the reverse of the front cover, with damage to front cover, and split to inner hinge. N° de ref. del artículo ABE-519196377
