CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Edges, corners and spine ends rubbed and worn; covers with some wear and rubbing; gilt bright. Interior has former owner's inked stamp and with inked numbers on front endpaper; pages are age-toned, else clean and tight. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 6th Indiana Infantry Regiment was the senior Indiana regiment of the Civil War, as it was numbered first in sequence after the five Indiana volunteer regiments which had served in the Mexican American War. The regiment mustered-in for a three-month period of service between April and August 1861, afterwards it re-formed in September 1861 for a further three-year period, and mustered out in September 1864. Serving in the western theater, the 6th Indiana Infantry had engagements at Battles of Philippi, Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, and Dallas. The 6th Indiana Infantry is identified as one of the Fox 300 Fighting Regiments. The two full histories of this regiment, this by Briant and the other by William Doll, are both very scarce and seldom offered for sale.
