Original blue cloth with decorative gilt title on cover, spine gilt decoration and title. Pencilled gift inscription from Capt. Sylvester Martin, dated Feby 5th 1895. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light rubbing to edges and spine ends, else cover clean and with bright gilt. Interior pages clean and tight. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 88th Pennsylvania Infantry mustered in for a three-year enlistment in September 1861 under the command of Colonel George P. McLean. It served in the Eastern Theater and fought in many of the engagements in the east and mustered out of service June 30, 1865. Their list of battles and engagements include Cedar Mountain, Pope's Campaign in northern Virginia, the Second Battle of Bull Run, Chantilly, the Maryland Campaign, Battle of South Mountain, Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg Burnside's "Mud March," the Chancellorsville Campaign, Gettysburg, Pursuit of Lee, the Bristoe Campaign, the Mine Run Campaign, Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Spotsylvania Court House, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg, Hatcher's Run, and the Appomattox Campaign. Captain Sylvester Martin, from whom the book is presented, was in Co. K, it being recruited from Philadelphia. A very nice copy of a scarce regimental that is seldom offered for sale.
