BOOK DESCRIPTION: Tall 8vo, 274 pgs., frontis portrait, illustrations, unit roster 7-85. Original black cloth with leather spine and corners, gilt titled spine. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Leather corners and spine are well worn; spine chipped on ends. Interior is clean and tight; pencilled name of former owner on endpaper. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author was a sergeant in Co. B. The 49th Pennsylvania Infantry was organized in Lewistown and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and mustered in September 14, 1861 at Camp Curtin for a three-year enlistment under the command of Colonel William H. Irwin. The regiment was attached to Hancock's Brigade, W. F. Smith's Division, Army of the Potomac, and later to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, VI Corps, Army of the Shenandoah. The 49th Pennsylvania Infantry mustered out July 15, 1865. They took part in most of the major engagements in the Eastern Theater, the author lists 26 separate battles, and the regiment is recognized as one of the FOX 300 Fighting Regiments. Scarce Pennsylvania unit history of a good, fighting regiment; seldom offered for sale or available.
