Strahan and Company Limited, 1879, first edition. Publisher's dark red cloth with titles and decorations in gilt and black on the spine and top board. An interesting association copy, given by the poet David Gascoyne to the artist Graham Sutherland and his wife Kathie in 1944, and with a label inscribed by Gascoyne. Graham Sutherland illustrated Gascoyne's book "Poems 1937- 1942". Good plus condition with a slightly darkened spine, bumping to the head and foot og the spine with fraying, corners bumped and some light marks to the cloth, one small hole in the back hinge. A very light scatter of foxing to the first and last pages, a very occasional light mark, otherwise clean and bright and tightly bound. Illustrated throughout with 180 engravings within the text. contains the first, second and third series, and as all good puzzle books should, it has the answers at the end. 20 cm, 8 inches, tall, title, dedication, contents, 420 pages, 4pp publisher's advertisements.
