This book tells of her experience of being a British woman in occupied France, in the Cevennes where the Resistance was active. Her husband was away for much of the time, initially with the army, and she was often uncertain about where he was and what he was doing. She lived in a small rural cottage with her young children and struggled in get enough food whilst becoming estranged from her in-laws because of their disagreements about their support for Marshal Petain. A First Edition, Second Impression in near fine condition. The binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in very good condition with shelf wear and slight loss to the bottom edge of the spine, a small tear to the top corner of the front cover and a darkened back cover.
