After many vexatious delays on the part of the Spanish crown, the treaty was finally ratified, and the American troops took possession of the territory in 1821. In 1822, the congress of the United States, by an almost unanimous vote in each house , recognized the independence of the late Spanish provinces in America". The map of Mexico is the FIRST TO SHOW IT AFTER INDEPENDENCE.
