Green printed wrappers, small 4to, 43 pp, 19 plates. 131 lots. Catalogue of a major sale, second only at the time to the Holford sale of 1928. The sale highlights included: Works by Boucher, Boudin, Jan Brueghel, Van Brussel, Derain, Fantin Latour, Francesco Guardi, J. Van Huysum, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Rachel Ruysch, Siberechts, Slingeland, Terbrugghen, Domenico Tiepolo, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Vlaminck (the property of Lady Keppel and other owners); and Venus Au Bain by Corot, A View on the Maas by Cuyp, Les Baigneurs and Le Forgeron by Daumier, Portrait of Amedee D ouville and L arabe Blesse by Delacroix, The Virgin by El Greco, The Holford Murillo, A View in Pontoise by Camille Pissarro, Tete de Femme by Renoir, Two Heads of Negroes by Van Dyck etc. (from the estate of Jakob Goldschmidt). The 14 pictures from Jakob Goldschmidt's estate alone realized some £135,850 (with three bought-in) : Erwin Goldschmidt was well pleased with the result and noted that this was only in the nature of an hors d'oeuvre to the still more important paintings by Cézanne, Manet, Renoir and Van Gog that would eventually be sold by Sotheby's on 15th October, 1958.
