This illustration shows pyramids, people and palm trees in the foreground, and the sun rising or setting over the Nile River and has gilt accents delineating the sun and its rays and its reflection on the water. Spine has blue lettering on a decorative gilt rectangle. Top edge gilt. 6 1/2" x 9." 191 pages, complete. Fifty-one color plates, complete. Each plate has an original tissue guard printed with the plate's corresponding caption. Foreword, List of Illustrations, and Introduction in front. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning, slight wear to fore-edges, and light to moderate fading to top gilt edge. Covers are very clean and intact except for minuscule darkening, light rubbing, a few scratch marks on front and back, and slight wear to extremities. Binding is tight. A Fine copy. A charming book about the sights, scenery, people, and cultures of Cairo as well as other Egyptian cities and locales such as Luxor, Aswan (Assouan), the island of Philae, Thebes, and Karnak. Beautiful color plates of different scenes in Egypt are interspersed among the pages of text. Augustus Osborne Lamplough (1877-1930) was an English painter, illustrator, and author. Lamplough is perhaps best-known for his watercolor paintings. He was employed as a lecturer at the Leeds School of Art during which time he traveled to Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and other parts of North Africa. Many of his artworks depict places such as these.
