BOUND WITH: Erclärung der Landsfreihait in Obern unnd Nidern Bairn widerumb verheut im funfftzehenhundert drei und funfftzigistem Jar (Munich: [Andreas Schobser], 1553); AND WITH: Declaration unnd Erleutterung etlicher in jüngst Bayrischer auffgerichter Policeyordnung begriffner Articul im 1557. Jar auszgangen (Munich: s.n., 1557). Vol. 1 (Bairische Lanndtzordnung): [18] pages, I-XVIII, [1], XIX-CXXV, [1], CXXVI-CXCVII foliated leaves (i.e., 199 leaves, 398 pages), and [40] pages (register); [3] folded leaves of woodcut plates representing the legal size of various fish that may be caught; title actually printed "Bairische Lanndtss 15 ordnung 53"; xylographic title printed in red within historiated woodcut border depicting Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria surrounded by courtiers; colophon reads "Gedruckt in unser Ingoldtstat. M.D. LIII." Vol. 2 (Erclärung): [16] pages, XXIX foliated leaves (i.e., 29 leaves, 58 pages); title page woodcut of the coat of arms of Bavaria within an ornamental border; colophon reads "Gedruckt zü München." Vol. 3 (Declaration): [36] pages (last page blank); title page with woodcut image of coat of arms (Bavaria?); colophon reads "Verfertigt unnd ausgangen zü München an Mitwochen nach Jubilate den zwelfften tag May . im 1557. Jar." Some marginal worming at front and back not affecting text, some browning but generally an excellent copy with wide margins. Bound in late 18th century century speckled paper-covered boards; worn, joints cracked but holding; house in a quarter-morocco slipcase. PROVENANCE: withdrawn from the Königlicher Kreisbibliothek (library release stamps on first two and last leaves), and Marcus and Elizabeth Crahan (their sale, Sotheby's New York, 25 November, 1986, lot 43). The Bairische Lanndtsordnung is a collection of laws regulating brewing, distillation, the sale of wine, beer and spirits, woodmen, hunters, fishermen and all kinds of craftsmen.
