Pages are mildly tanned with light foxing. Mild cracking to gutters, however binding remains firm. Notably loose plate by p.24. Mild thumb-marking present. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. Frontispiece two-color drawing with tissue guard plus one other full-page two-color drawing by Frank Craig. Decorative initial letters. Green cloth with white letters on the front cover and black letters on the spine. Front cover also has a black and white pictorial onlay of a young woman with a parasol and has another oblong image (not an onlay) in green, white and black at the top of the front cover of a cottage, a road past it and a forest across from it. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. Binding designer unknown. Just touches of wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, pictorial onlay has a couple of scuff marks which are not very noticeable, white lettering pretty much intact, frontispiece plus tissue guard in fine condition, second illustration fine, gift inscription on front free endpaper ("A Valentine |February |1911"), else fine with no internal markings. Born in Maryland in 1864, Elinor Macartney Lane was an American novelist who was popular in the first decade of the 1900s.
