Anglia Rediviva; Englands Recovery: Being the History of the Motions, Actions, and Successes of the Army under the immediate conduct of His Excellency Sr. Thomas Fairfax, Kt. Captain-General of all the Parliaments Forces in England. Compiled for the Publique good by Ioshua Sprigge. M.A. London, Printed by R.W. for Iohn Partridge, and are to be sold at the Parot in Pauls Church-yard, and the Cock in Ludgate-streete, 1647. Paginates: [24], 171, 176-335, [5] p. Collates: A4, *B4, *b4, B-2Y4, Z2, 2a-2v4, x2. Title page is A2. First Edition. Complete. With Coat of Arms frontis, two folding plates, one folding table. With the famous bird s-eye view engraving of the order of battle at Naseby, by Robert Streeter (1624-80). An etching; printed from two copperplates on two sheets of paper, then joined together. Our copy of the battle was removed at some point and a tear professionally repaired from the back using acid free material. The map was then remounted on a stub. Except for fold marks, the map is now in a stabilized very-good plus condition. Bound in contemporary blind ruled calf. The spine in five compartments with blind ruling and four raised bands. No label as per the period. The boards with exposed paste-board with leather wrapped-around the edges as per the period. Cracked along the back hinge, but both the top and foot of the spine with older repair, stabilizing any cracks. Corners stabilized. Holding nicely by all the cords. Internally with double contemporary front and end sheets, with some chipping to the edges of the end-sheets. 1938 ownership signature to front sheet, with a price of 45 GBP. Slight browning on the edges probably from the red staining applied to the edges when the book was bound. Minor foxing here and there, no water stains, leaves still fresh and supple. A great example of a mid 17th century English binding. The volume measures 28.2 x 19 x 4 cm. Each leaf measures 278 x 180 mm. N° de ref. del artículo ABE-1690570705557
