Forty years is an alternative title of the last novel by Maxim Gorky (1888-1936) The life of Klim Samgin . Gorky started the work in 1925 and never finished this monumental story. The present book is a first part of the 4 parts epos. The translator Nii Itaru was a vanguard writer and anarchist, very important at the time. He is responsible for the mobu-moga modernist movement in Japan. Translation was done in October 1930, possibly after the publication in the magazine Krasnaya nov . Original paper wrapper. Cracking at the corners of the spine, the binding is still tight. Occasional browning & foxing on the contents. 2 cm damage at the margin of the last page. Small ex-owner stamp on the title page.
