Descripción

ix, 110p., illustrated, with 27 portraits by Cooper, prior owner's gift inscription, wear at spine ends. Cooper, minister of the Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in St. Louis, was also the one of the leading African American portrait painters of his day. The book consists of twenty-seven character portraits of black ideal types and people known to him, primarily from North Carolina, each accompanied by a black and white reporduction of one of his paintings. Each narrative describes both the person portrayed and the concept behind each painting. The one exception is the article on himself, done by Walter Spearman, which provides a four-page biography of Cooper. N° de ref. de la librería 75559
