("Helena Modjeska") in black fountain pen ink on pictorial Hotel Grunewald, New Orleans, Louisiana letterhead, November 18, 1901. 6" x 9 1/2" laid down on album leaf 7 3/4" x 10 3/4"; 1 page; very good (slight toning; minor signs of handling). To Mr. Wm. W. Marman: "Dear Sir: Your fav. of 6th inst. reached me only here where I arrived yesterday after folowing [sic] me all over the South. I am almost sure that I wrote to you to thank you for the jar of cream, you sent me some time ago. In any case it gives me pleasure to repeat that your cream seems to me, both pleasant and very satisfactory. Yours truly, Helena Modjeska." Modjeska (1840-1909), born October 12, 1840 in Krakow, Poland and died April 9, 1909 in Bay Island California; actress who introduced Ibsen to American theatre in "A Doll's House"; excelled in serious dramatic roles, including Lady Macbeth, Juliet, Ophelia, Dumas's Camille.
