Handwritten Marriage Certificate. Thomas Lancaster and Harriet Pritchard were Married by Banns at the parish Church of St. Thomas, Dudley, the 17th day of Sept 1838. Certified by me. W. H. Cartwright vicar. Roughly 4 x 8 inches. Discoloured, folded & torn with strip of reversible acid free archive tape to reverse. The vicar W. H. Cartwright M.A., successor to Dr. Booker was the grandson of former vicar of Dudley, Joseph Cartwright. W. H. Cartwright was married to Harriet Rogers, daughter of Rev. J. Rogers. He was succeeded by Dr. Browne. I think it was also the same W. H. Cartwright who was a magistrate at the time of the Sedgley Chartist Riot of 1842. "Chartists continue to hold their outdoor meetings around Dudley, numerously attended by the unemployed. A meeting was held on Friday week at the Bull Ring, Sedgley. The parish constable (William Beaman) intervened at the meeting. There was powerful resistance by the mob and seven were taken into custody Thomas Caswell, Job Smith, John Jones, Edward Richards, Samuel Rawson, William Maurice and William Caswell. The lecturer, John Mason, was not arrested, but being at the hearing he was charged. All were committed to trial at the Quarter Sessions. Mason was given bail. Magistrates were Mr. Badger, Mr. Bennitt and Rev. W. H. Cartwright. (Wolverhampton Chronicle, June 15th 1842).". N° de ref. del artículo 000955
