Centre-folded sheet 460x565mm, plate size 420x515mm. Detailed map of Berkshire with hand-coloured outlines and topographical features etc, around which quite densely printed information on principal towns etc, labelled parts of adjoining counties, 'Explanation' (map key) at lower left, and hand-coloured pictorial cartouche at upper right within which full title "An Accurate Map of Berk Shire Divided into Hundreds, Laid down from the latest and best Authorities, Illustrated with Historical Extracts relative to the Natural Produce, Trade, and Manufactures of the County and Principal Towns; Describing also the Church Livings &c. with several other considerable Improvements. By Emanuel Bowen Geogr. to His late Majesty". Lower margin with full publishing details "London: Printed for Carington Bowles, No. 69, St. Pauls Church Yard; John Bowles, No. 13, Cornhill; Robt. Sayer & John Bennett, No. 53, Fleet Street; as the Act directs. 1st of June 1777". Upper margin patchily toned, more deeply so and with minor overlapping of map borders at right, and quite deeply so outside of plate mark at upper right-hand corner; slight loss at tip of upper left-hand corner, well outside of plate mark. Lower margin with very faint pale-tan-rimmed dampstain of variable height along some 70mm of lower edge at left of centre, no visible signs above map's outer border. Lower margin otherwise lightly & patchily toned, a little more deeply so at right-hand corner and small section of adjoining right-hand margin; the light toning extending 150mm upwards along centre-fold to width at right of about 15mm, overlapping parts of texts pertaining to Newbury and Reading but with minimal effects. Some faint toning elsewheres within map borders, effects very minimal. Ink spot of diameter 4mm inside map borders at left, obscuring three letters of one word in second line of 'Explanation'.
