Descripción Gale Ecco, Print Editions, United States, 2010. Paperback. Estado de conservación: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. Descripción M. Cooper, London, 1751. 12mo, pp. viii, 272; engraved frontispiece; early nineteenth century full calf, black morocco label on gilt-decorated spine; joints cracked, else good or better. On the frontispiece Pompey's name has been struck through with a single dash of the pen, and the name Fidelle has been written in underneath. Who has ever heard of Francis Coventry (not even noticed in the 3000-page Longman Anthology of English Literature, and who gets a mere 2 inches in the DNB), a cantab who had something of a best-seller in Pompey, a satirical romance told from the point of view of a dog "which Lady Mortley Montagu preferred to Peregrine Pickle. Several characters were intended for ladies well known in contemporary society" (DNB). Coventry's birth date is not known, but he died young, of small-pox, in 1759, at about the age of thirty. Eight editions appeared in the 18th century, and Oxford published a scholarly edition as recently as 1974. Nº de ref. de la librería 23491
