Frame has scratches, backing is toned, torn and has three labels, photo has staining to larger mat and affects part of the signature. Not examined out of frame. Fenton Reuben McCreery, 1866-1940, has written on the mat "Behold your own handiwork Fenton R. McCreery". He is seated wearing a WWI era uniform. Prior to WWI he had been a diplomat in Chile, Santo Domingo and Honduras. During WWI he served in Europe with the Red Cross, in the portrait there is a cross on his cap. He was the uncle of Jerome Remick, the music publisher. As for the labels on the back: one has McCreery's name and the other is another family member. The third label, red, dated 11-18-28, is from the Detroit Police Department. It lists from who it was taken- Emory Clark with the address of 8310 E. Jefferson.
