4 1/4 inches x 6 1/2 in. Signed copy of a bookplate for Dr. Paul Wolfgang Blumer, designed by Swiss artist & book illustrator, Martha Schmid, who has signed in pencil in the lower right margin. The paper shows light, age-realted tanning. From the personal collection of fellow Swiss-born artist and designer, Fred Rentschler, who emigrated to America in the early 1920's, and later taught at the Cleveland [Ohio] School of Art. His collection contained examples of proofs & finished pieces of bookplates, new year's greetings, book illustrations, title-page designs, initial letters, etc. mainly produced by Swiss artists & designers, ca. 1917-22, including a few of his Swiss bookplate designs.
