ABEBOOKS EUROPE APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
(February 25, 2005) The European subsidiary of Abebooks, the world’s largest online marketplace for books, has appointed e-commerce expert Marcus Polke as Director of Marketing & Business Development
The 35-year-old will oversee Abebooks' marketing and expansion in the UK, Germany, France and Spain, and be responsible for developing strategic relationships in the book market and furthering the company's growth.
Before joining Abebooks, Marcus was managing e-commerce activities at AOL Germany, where he was responsible for one of Germany’s leading shopping portals and price comparisons with more than 500 retail partners. Prior to this, he spent three years at Amazon.de, where he was responsible for two business units.
Marcus graduated in Business Administration at Technical University Berlin. He is married and has two children. Book-wise, he enjoys contemporary American literature and Science Fiction authors like Neil Stephenson and William Gibson.
Abebooks has also appointed Richard Davies as its new PR and Publicity Manager.
A former journalist, the 36-year-old spent the past five years working for Oxford-based PR consultancy Banc. He will be responsible for media relations across North America and in the UK.
