Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Hardcover. Original binding, with leather spine and corners, plain gray paper over boards. It's an interesting binding, with the plainest of plain papers over the boards, dull gray now spotted, rubbed, and worn. Brown leather corners unevenly exposed beneath the paper. But the spine is nicely finished, with smooth calf and nicely raised cords. Front hinge split, so front cover attached by only on fragile cord. Rear cover firm. Large handwritten ownership inscription on the front endpaper, 'Joseph Miller book. in allexandria [sic] 1796' with a large 'B' in the middle. Another ownership name on the title page 'Benj Pennypacker's book. Aug 19th, 1806.' This is the 9th edition of Dilworth's book. Pagination is somewhat bewildering. 6 page preface. Next section is 'The Waste-book' dated January 1, 1785. Pages numbered 1-15. Next section 'the Journal' numbered 1-8. 2 page 'Ledger,' followed by 20 pages in which pages are numbered 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, etc. in which facing pages have the same number. And so on, after a pattern that I can't quite discern. Separate title page for 'A Synopsis or Compendium of Merchants' Accompts' towards the end. About 150 pages in all. Tipped in at the front is a partially printed sheet of paper, which seems to be a receipt of some sort, to the Sheriff of Frederick county, dated 1827. It shows in inventory (?) of '1 White levy $1.06 1/2 1 Black do. $1.06. 1 slave. 3 horses.' It is signed by Griffin Frost. Name at the top is hard to make out. Elizab. White? Elyah White? Elijah White? Document is about 5.25 x 6 inches, and is mostly split in half down the middle. There are a lot of threads to tug on with this book - 4 names (all seemingly in the United States) that I'd like to know more about. Slave document. In addition, the book itself is scarce in this early edition. Printed in England but clearly in Alexandria VA by 1796. Text block complete and binding tight. Normal foxing and fading to the page. Please email with questions or to request photos.
