Number 718 of 1,000 numbered copies of which, reportedly, only 500 were bound in cloth. 8vo gilt-stamped blue cloth boards; top edge gilt; 107 pages including index. Printed at the Curwen Press on Barcham Green's hand-made paper and illustrated with 4 collotype plates. About near fine with spine ends softened and faded and upper rear corner lightly bumped; in about very good dust jacket with toning to spine and along upper edge, scant 1/8" chipped from head of spine, and internal archival tape repair to tear traversing spine.

One of 1000 copies printed at the Curwen Press on handmade paper, this being unnumbered.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed by him on the half-title page: ''Ethel and Nan from [in Greek] PALINURUS - December 1941. Quand bleuira sur l'horizon la Désirade? London.'' The sentence in French is a quotation from Apollinaire. The recipients are the American painters Ethel Sands and Nan Hudson. It was Logan Pearsall Smith who first introduced Connolly to Sands. There are authorial corrections at pages 2 and 9.Spine slightly darkened. Small chip to bottom edge of front cover. Very good indeed.

Foxing to the endpapers, and the foredge darkened, a presentable, very good copy in an age-toned, very good or better dustwrapper. Inscribed by author Budd Schulberg to Gloria (Mosolino) Jones, wife of James Jones, a year after she and Jones were married: "Mos with love to you and Jim from someone who wants something from you: friendship. Bud. London 21 May 58." A splendid association: Schulberg introduced Jones to the beautiful Gloria who Schulberg had also dated, when Jones expressed his interest to Schulberg in meeting a girl who looked like Marilyn Monroe. After graduating from Syracuse University, Mosolino became an actress, and was the stand-in for Monroe in *The Seven-Year Itch.* During her thirty year marriage to James Jones, Mosolino was a celebrated hostess of the literati in Paris and later the Hamptons. In the 1998 film *A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries*, based on an autobiographical memoir by her daughter, Mosolino was played by Barbara Hershey. In an amazing display of candor, Mosolino described herself as related in the MacShane biography of Jones as "a writer-fker.".
