Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. Previous owner name on front endpaper, which has been whited out. The dustjacket has a small piece missing at upper spine, with some chipping and edgewear. Else in Very Good condition. Uncommon in dustjacket. A scarce bench rest shooting volume. The editor, Townsend Whelen was an American hunter, soldier, writer, outdoorsman, and rifleman. Whelen's great passion was the great outdoors and hunting, and he undertook many expeditions into the wilderness of both North and South America, living off the land, hunting and exploring. Apart from his professional interest in the rifle as a military weapon and competitive target shooting, he also experimented with rifles and cartridges in survival and wilderness applications, using the different loads in his hunting rifles to take both small and large game while on long hunting excursions in the wilds. The comprehensive knowledge and experience reflected in Whelen's writing covered the black powder era at the end of the 1800s and spanned the transitional period into smokeless arms, resulting in the modern high velocity rifles of the 20th century. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dustjacket as issued. First Edition. Some scuffing and general wear to covers. The first printing of the first publication of The Bench Rest Shooter's Association (scarce thus). With chapters on the history of the association, construction of the bench rest, technique, the .219 Donalson Wasp Cartridge, chambering a rifle barrel, bullet making, the biehler uniform-weight, conforming die, stocking and bedding, types of rifles, targets and sights, conducting a rifle match, and more. "Today we know such a firearm as a bench rest rifle. Starting with informal activities by the Puget Sound Snipers Congress in 1944, on the west coast, and some matches in Machias, Maine on the Atlantic side these varmint hunters and accuracy fanatics soon met at the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown, New York on Labor Day weekend of 1947. By the end of the weekend the assembled men had elected officers and the National Bench Rest Shooters Association was born. Harvey Donaldson, Townsend Whelen, Sam Clark, Ray Biehler, Al Marciante, Warren Page, and Lucian Cary were some of the legendary firearms experimenters who laid the foundation for the development of bench rest competition as it is known today".
