Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. Franz Altschuler Ilustrador. 1st Edition. Squaw Dog by Patricia Beatty (1965 1st Edition Hardcover in Dust Jacket) This is a poignant Depression-era story of a young black Labrador and the Quileute boy, Jimmy Pine, who loves him. But life is not easy for Jimmy nor for his beloved Kadedo. When Jimmy becomes seriously ill, Kadedo tries to survive while he waits for Jimmy's return, running away from those who would try to make him their own. Meanwhile, Jimmy's faithful friends do their best to keep Kadedo safe in the face of many challenges. The author takes us on a soulful journey with grace and humor through the Pacific North Coast and the Quileute Nation she grew up among as a child. Patricia Beatty, Award Winning Children's Author (1922 - 1991), was born in Portland, Oregon and lived for many years in Southern California. She began writing children's books when she was a librarian with the Riverside County Library. She once described her characters as very self-reliant. "The girls are spunky. The boys are strong. They do things. They don't have adults solve all their problems, and they say what they think," she said. Illustrator, Franz Altschuler (1923 - 2009) was a respected Artist and Illustrator. German-born, he taught at the Institute of Design in the 1950's and at the School of Art Institute in Chicago in the 1970's. His illustrations appeared on book covers, textbooks, annual reports, and some young adult novels. This powerful story concerns a Labrador who got accepted by an Indian tribe on the Olympic Peninsula. These older animal books are no longer being written for anyone, child or adult. Rare. It is a great deal and recommended for anyone who is investing for their children's or grandchildren's future. Ex-Public Library Hardcover has green cloth boards with white shadowboxes on spine and front, brown lettering and illustration in shadowboxes, in a torn DJ stabilized with tape. Complete, unclipped dust jacket coded 008-0012. DJ front illustration matches book's front illustration. Interior has front facing end-page removed without affecting binding. Sticker inside front cover indicates this copy was rebound for heavy usage. Prior owner ink-stamped their name on title page and wrote filing codes on reverse. Copyright 1965. 1965 on front of title page indicates this copy printed in year of copyright. 1st printing assumed. Printed in U.S.A. No ISBN. LCCN: 65-18507. MSR = US $3.25. Thanks for looking!
