Sputnik Model, 1957, USSR, satellite.Custom made for commemoration for the first unmanned space flight, October 4, 1957. This model was made in extremely small numbers for top ranking officers. On the occasion of the first flight of Sputnik, a model was created, which was given to highly decorated officers and politicians. This model differs very much from the ones which were produced later in the thousands as a soubenir for tourists. The writing is made of pure silver, the base is steel covered with rose gold, the body is polished aluminum and the antennae are made of steel. There is a Hammer and Cycle engraved in the satellite which is accented in red. The base is inscribed: 4.X.1957. CCCP (Russian:?"?"?, tr. Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respiblik). 4.4 x 7.1 cm. Very fine and attractive.
