"Patarolo wurde . zu den Clericis somascis in die Zucht gethan, überließ sich, nach geendeten Studiis völlig einer gelehrten Ruhe, und verlangte, weil er selbst Mittel hatte, keine Beförderung. Die Untersuchung der Alterthümer und Müntzen, waren nebst der Botanic seine einzige Beschäfftigung, worüber er sich aber an seiner Gesundheit schadete, und 1727 zu Venedig verstarb" (Jöcher III, 1294 f.).

In-4° (cm 20,5 x 13,2), legatura settecentesca in piena pergamena rigida con tit. ms. al dorso; pp. 237(3) (una di errata e due bianche; antiporta e frontespizio compresi nella num.). Bell'antiporta allegorico calcografica, e ritratti degli imperatori e regnanti, finemente incisi in rame all'inizio di ogni scheda, tratti da monete e medaglie antiche della collezione personale dell'autore. I personaggi di cui si raccoglie qui la biografia ed il ritratto sono centoventidue, da Caio Giulio Cesare a Leopoldo I Imperatore; per ciascuno si hanno da una a sette incisioni, per un totale di più di duecentoventi figure. Due ex-libris al contropiatto. Lorenzo PATAROL nacque a Venezia nel 1674 da Francesco e Laura Businello; la sua famiglia, forse di origine fiorentina sostiene Michelangelo Minio negli Atti della Accademia scientifica Veneto-Triestino-Ispana nel 1905 ma stabilita già da parecchie generazioni a Venezia, era ascritta all'ordine nobiliare dei Segretari. Fu educato presso i padri Comaschi a Murano e qui nacque il suo gusto per l'archeologia e la civiltà classica, cui dedicò la maggior parte della sua attività. Coltivò assiduamente l'amicizia con naturalisti, specialmente il Vallisneri e il Pontedera, medico e cattedratico di Padova il primo, prefetto dell'Orto Botanico patavino il secondo, da cui trasse l'amore per la Storia naturale e in particolare la Botanica e la Paleontologia. Morì a Venezia nel 1757. Aloncino centrale nella parte inferiore, che da p. 169 circa va aumentando leggermente d'intensità fino alla fine del volume; rarissime leggere fioriture e piccole bruniture sparse. Un buon esemplare, nel complesso fresco e marginoso, dell'edizione originale di quest'opera.
