Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. THE GLOBAL NON-FICTION PHENOMENON Jordan Peterson has become one of the world's most electrifying and influential public thinkers, with his lectures on topics ranging from the Bible to mythology to romantic relationships capturing audiences of tens of millions. His startling message about the value of personal responsibility and the search for meaning has resonated powerfully around the world. In this book, he combines the hard-won truths of ancient wisdom with decades of clinical experience to provide twelve profound and practical principles, from setting your house in order before criticising others to comparing yourself to who you were yesterday, not to someone else today. Gripping, thought-provoking and deeply rewarding, 12 Rules for Life offers an antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to our modern problems.

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st printing of the first hardcover edition of the Canadian author's break-out book. This is not a later printing with a bookplate laid-in. It's an actual first printing that you can get autographed by the author. (Peterson is currently on a world tour to promote his forthcoming book - We Who Wrestle with God. Tour stops are listed on his site.) This - the Canadian and true first - has tan paper boards with white paper binding, bronze titles and white end papers. The book is tight with sharp corners. No markings by a previous owner. The crown and the heel of the book's spine have softened, and there is a tiny tear at the heel. There are a half-dozen pin-point flecks of an unknown substance visible on the exposed bottom page edges - this is not foxing. Several shallow dents in the top edges of both boards and one in the bottom edge of the back board. The white jacket is bright, crisp and price intact with sharp edges, and no tears or creases. Thre is a tiny nick in the top edge of the front panel. A very well-preserved copy of a book with a small first printing. Also available from this bookseller is a Canadian first printing of the sequel - Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life. A clinical psychologist and a former member of the faculty of Psychology at Harvard, Peterson is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. His fame is drawn in part from the controversy inspired by his opposition to the attack on free speech by political correctness and the demands of the Radical Left (and legislation passed by the Government of Canada in 2017) that our language be forced to accommodate a gender neutral pronoun. Peterson says that the debate is only nominally about sexual politics. It is in fact an attempt to use language to control freedom of expression. He says free speech is how civil people in a civil society with differing opinions arrive at a consensus. So, to be able to think and to express your opinions you have to risk being offensive to someone. His detractors claim he is dangerous because of the people his ideas enable, such as the Alt Right. Peterson is an authority on authoritarianism, and his teaching and his books seek to inoculate people against ideological possession. He contends that many have lost meaning in their lives and that has prompted them to gravitate toward extreme ideologies, on the left and right. In his writing and speaking engagements he encourages people to transcend dangerous and impersonal ideological identifications and start to live as true individuals in the world. Also available from this bookseller is a Canadian first printing of the sequal - Beyond Order - 12 More Rules for Life. Canadian buyer will be charged GST.
