Añadir al carritoCondición: Fine. - An original 9-3/4 inch high by 13-3/8 inch wide official White House photograph depicting nurses in their white uniforms seated in the front rows of the auditorium which reportedly hosted an audience of 10,000 during Agnew's campaign tour in Memphis, Tennessee. Nurses in the front row hold signs supporting the Vice President. "Official Photograph / The White House / Washington / 23SE70 4510-24" is stamped in blue on the verso with the annotation "Memphis, Tenn / Sept. 22, 1970" penned in ink below the stamp. There are but minor flaws. Near fine. In an interesting side note, when Agnew's campaign jet landed in Memphis, Al Gore's father, Democratic Senator Albert Gore, Sr. of Tennessee made a surprise appearance elbowing his way into the Republican receiving line to greet the Vice President who was actually there to support Gore's rival Bill Brock who was not there. In the midst of the Watergate scandal, Nixon's Vice President Spiro T. Agnew (1918-1996) was under investigation for Tax Fraud associated with brides he took while serving as Governor of Maryland. In a plea bargain, Agnew pled guilty to tax avoidance and was subsequently forced to resign his position as Vice President.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Very Good. Oblong Small 8vo. A unique piece of WW I Nursing history, this historic piece features more than 150 original black and white photographs of life at Camp Devens, Massachusetts This album is an oblong small otcavo in size, features 48 leaves and 96 individual pages, with some pages blank and others ranging from 1-4 photographs apiece. Scenes include many individual and group portraits of nurses, soldiers, some of the grounds and architecture of the base and others of nurses and doctors involved in daily routines and one photo of a medical procedure in process. There is no identifying information as to whom the album belonged, but presumably a nurse at the time. Mild rubbing and edge wear, with some pages a touch rippled, presumably from glue holding down photos, but overall in very nice condition. The front board features a suede leather pastedown of an American Indian theme. "Camp Devens, named after jurist and Civil War general Charles Devens, was established on September 5, 1917, as a temporary cantonment for training soldiers during World War I. About 5,000 acres of land as leased then later purchased from 112 owners who sold 230 parcels of land in the towns of Ayer, Harvard, Lancaster and Shirley by the federal government. Some was fine farmland along the Nashua River and other was "sprout" land where trees had been cut leaving stumps. "The Fort's siting was due primarily to its location at a major hub of the rail network in New England. Construction, by the largest labor force assembled in the United States, to build an entire city for 10,000 requiring barracks, training buildings, water and sewer systems, raced at the rate of 10.4 new buildings every day. It was a reception center for war selectees and became a demobilization center after the war. As one of 16 temporary cantonments, Camp Devens processed and trained more than 100,000 soldiers.[citation needed] Three divisions (the 12th, the 26th and the 76th) were activated and trained at Devens during the war. "In 1918, Camp Devens, was afflicted by the late 1918 deadly second wave of the 1918 flu pandemic. Approximately 850 soldiers, mostly privates, died at the camp during 1918 from the Spanish flu. "In 1918, it became a separation center for over 150,000 troops upon their return from France.[citation needed] Put on inactive status, it served next as a summer training camp for National Guardsmen, Reservists and ROTC cadets." - wiki.

Añadir al carritoThe gelatin silver postcard-format print (circa 1920s) is in fine condition. The unidentified location depicted is presumably in England, where the item was sourced. The British passion for dogs is taken to extremes in this instance, with the bulldog resting on its stomach and front paws on the operating table.

Añadir al carritoNursing student photograph album, circa 1915, documenting the training, social life, and professional formation of young women entering the medical field during the First World War, with direct relevance to the expansion of nursing education, public health campaigns, and women's participation in wartime medical systems in the United States. The album centers on a cohort of fourteen student nurses, shown in clinical settings including operating rooms as well as in informal group settings, providing visual evidence of institutional training environments and peer networks within early twentieth-century nursing programs. One photograph prominently features the group posed behind a sign reading "Smallpox!", pointing to the ongoing presence of infectious disease and the role of nurses in public health response during a period of recurring outbreaks that shaped both medical training and recruitment into the profession. Additional photographs extend the documentary scope to include soldiers, early aviation imagery, and domestic scenes, situating the nurses within the broader social and wartime context of the United States during the 1910s. Photograph album containing 184 silver gelatin photographs, taken across multiple locations in the United States including Michigan, Texas, and mountainous regions of the American West, with images ranging from approximately 1.5 x 1 inches to 11 x 8 inches, most measuring around 4 x 2.5 inches. The photographs are mounted to black album pages and depict nursing instruction, clinical practice, and group portraiture alongside scenes of military presence and early aviation, including images taken from a World War I-era biplane above the clouds, suggesting personal connections between the compiler and an early aviator. The geographic and thematic range of the album reflects patterns of mobility, training, and social connection among young Americans during the wartime period. 184 photographs mounted on black pages in an album measuring approximately 11.5 x 8.5 inches, with textured black covers and tight binding. Minor wear consistent with use; overall very good condition. A cohesive visual record of women's medical education, public health awareness, and wartime-era social networks in the United States during the First World War.
