St Andrew Holborn was one of London's largest ancient parishes, straddling the City of London boundary and extending deep into Middlesex. This Act represents early Georgian efforts to improve local policing through parish-based watch systems, predating the major metropolitan police reforms of the late 18th and 19th centuries. The legislation remained in force until repealed by the London Government (Borough of Holborn) Order in Council 1901.A significant example of mid-Georgian law enforcement legislation documenting the evolution of urban policing and parish governance in 18th-century London.; 30 x 19.5 cms; 455-494 pages.
