The second series is "Legends of the Monastic Orders," and this is the 1872 fifth edition. The third series is "Legends of the Madonna," and this is the 1872 fifth edition. The fourth and final series in "The History of Our Lord" (two volumes) and this is the 1872 third edition, completed after Jameson's death by Lady Eastlake. English writer Jameson (1794-1860) authored many essays and nonfiction works, but this sextette was art history of a sort never before attempted and represents her main claim to fame. From the library of Wisconsin civic leader JAMES M. LYNCH, chief clerk at the Adjutant General's Office during the Civil War, appointed quartermaster general in 1865. This lovely set was bound in the 1870s and saw little use.
