Privately Printed In about 1848 the world-famous shipping company Lloyd Triestino ventured into the field of publishing. One reason was that the company had recently taken over the celebrated printing works and reading-room of the Tergesteo, where citizens of the internationally-minded port could find no less than 147 newspapers from all over the world. The acquisition in Stuttgart of what at the time was one of the most modern and remarkable steel engraving presses to be found contributed to the decision in 1855 to begin issuing these illustrations to a periodical entitled Letture di Famiglia. This volume brings together 24 of the finest and best-loved illustrations, Size: Quarto.
