Barbaro with his commentary).- "The majority of the woodcuts are reduced copies of the 1556 illustrations (Venice, Marcolini), Franceschi names Chrieger (= Krüger) as cutter of the blocks. He used these blocks again in a 1584 edition, with the exception of the title block, and tree illustrations that had to be recut. Leaves II1 and LL1 are double plates of the theaters of Curio; music in book 5, printed by the single-impression method" (Mortimer 549 Anm.).- Title with color spot and ownership entry, sometimes a little brown stains or waterstains, some leaves with small marginal fraying, binding stained and bumped.Terza edizione (dopo la prima del 1556) della stimatissima traduzione e del commento del Daniele Barbaro (1513-1570), che presto' soppianto' quella del Cesariano (Como 1521).

[Architettura] (cm. 24,7) bella e solida mz. pelle XIX sec., doppio tassello, titolo e fregi in oro al dorso, tagli rossi. -- cc. 4 nn., pp. 506 + due tavv. ripiegate. Bel frontis architettonico e oltre 120 illustrazioni in xilografia nel testo. Seconda edizione in volgare con il commento di Daniele Barbaro (Prima, Venezia Marcolini in folio). La bordura del frontis è la stessa dell' edizione del 1556 ma ridotta, e le belle illustrazioni sono attribuite dal Cicognara e dal Poleni a Giovanni Chriegher. Numerose in questa edizione sono le figure di macchine e orologi. Il volume inizia con una nuova dedica al Cardinale Ippolito d' este e il testo è stato corretto e migliorato. Come riferisce lo Schlosser questa traduzione del Barbaro: "Oscurò tutte le precedent". Frontis foderato, due antichi timbretti al margine, un fregio xilografico del '500 riportato al margine bianco basso altrimenti esemplare molto bello fresco e nitido raro così ben conservato e pulito dato l' uso pratico cui era destinato. Bound in early vellum, [ probably late 17th century ], vellum has been repaired/restored with later endpapers, and leather title label. Binding slightly sprung, minor wear. A very nice clean solid binding. Internally, occasional light staining of spotting, [ probably cleaned or washed at some time ], not recently. Pages and illustrations in very good clean condition. A very nice clean well bound copy. Size: Quarto.
