This book is described by him as a 'shocker' which was John Buchan's term for The Thirty-Nine Steps and other works. In the lengthy dedication, to the memory of John Buchan, he describes how John Buchan advised him to write it. 252 pages, maroon cloth with white lettering. The book is in generally very good condition with lightly bumped corners and a small red stain at one corner of the fly-leaf, which also bears a brief ownership inscription. The dustwrapper is largely intact but is a little ragged around the edges and has some small pieces missing at the ends of the spine. The inside of the d/w has some red stains which appear to be caused by some of the dye leaching out of the binding; this does not show through to the outside.
