Copyright information reads, "Twenty-second Edition; 220,000, Revised to May 1st, 1888." This is a beautiful atlas with much visual appeal that contains a variety of world maps and statistical information. Most of the maps, information, and statistics pertain to U.S. history. The maps are political maps that have printed colorblocks demarcating specific political boundaries, states, and regions. Included are maps of North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia as well as maps of specific states or regions within those continents. For example, in addition to North America, there are maps for the U.S. and different states within the U.S. Also featured are a few color plates that show national flags and arms of different countries, a diagram of the solar system, tables and diagrams of worldwide statistics such as economic output and population, an illustration of the world's tallest buildings, and an illustration of the Holy Land. There is also a chronology (with accompanying maps) of the different periods of U.S. history such as the colonial period, American Civil War, and period after the Civil War from 1865-1888. There are additional statistics relating to U.S. history as well as a history of the political parties in the U.S. Table of Contents is organized into maps, historical maps, diagrams, statistics, and illustrations. In the back is an Index for towns and counties by U.S. state. George Franklin Cram (1842-1928) was an American map publisher. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. In 1867, he joined his uncle's map business. Soon after, Cram became the sole proprietor of the business and renamed it the George F. Cram Company. His Standard Atlas of the United States became a best-seller which was later renamed to the Unrivaled Family Atlas.
