Sandip Mitra's intense expressions bring forth the lives of people by chance effect and acute societal pressures left by themselves to navigate between the way of life desired by themselves and the strict social traditions. He uses many voices to express his ideas and to speak unnamed protagonists. He deals with delicate themes and controversial topics maintaining a fine balance between staunch reality with delicate exactitude and poetic beauty. A certain air of loneliness haunts the reader through the unputdownable volume and evidently serves the poet's purpose to bring forth the plight of those who for trivialities of a few minds are left to lead lives worst than death at times nudging deep into the past of crime to justify his act of just sympathy and compassion. Set in a world of his own that he tactfully builds these sublimely understated poems spiced with strong emotional expressions extreme involvement subtle detailing using metaphoric frills speak with universal eloquence to anyone who has felt the yearnings for exile or the emotional confusion of the outsider. 92 pp.

Hardbound. Condición: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Theoretical background. 2. Regional rural banks in north east a review. 3. Overall performance a corporate level analysis. 4. Deposit mobilization and credit deployment. 5. Viability and profitability the branch level analysis. 6. Findings and suggestions. Bibliography. Ind…ex. Rural development in India has remained one of the pertinent issues confronting the planners of the country. Since independence ample resources have been marshalled to uplift the economic condition of the rural masses. Despite various interventions from the Government's side the desired results are yet to be achieved. One of such measures was the strengthening of financial institutional network for rural areas. On this front the government tired to supplement the earlier network of commercial banks and cooperative banks with a new set of 196 Regional Rural Banks from the year 1975 onwards. RRBs are now there for nearly 30 years but many of them have not fulfilled the expectations of the rural people and of the planners. Most of them are reeling under huge accumulated losses and non performing assets. In many states their profitability and viability are at stake and many of them are not worth continuing. Similar situation is also found in the north east region. Since this region is predominantly rural in nature the performance of RRBs operating here are of crucial importance for economic empowerment of rural people and for a balanced regional development. Their financial parameters in almost all the states of this region are far below the accepted national level norm. There are many RRBs in this region that are on the verge of financial collapse. With the help of a micro level study both at corporate and branch levels this book delves into this aspect of financial viability and profitability of these banks in the major state of this region viz. Assam and tries to identity the important problems associated with the functioning of RRBs. Considering the dearth of research work in this region this book provides some genuine insight into the functioning of the RRBs in particular and rural banking in general in the N E region. 130 pp.

Anticipated and unanticipated money supply effect on…output variation. 7. Window Finding of structural changes in the relation between output variation and anticipated/unanticipated money supply. 8. Output level and different parts of money supply relationships over different sub periods. 9. Summary and conclusions. Selected bibliography. Index. This book deals mainly with econometric work between output and money supply in India for the period 1950 91. The author follows the works of rational expectations like Lucas Sargen N. Wallace. Expectations are given weightage in determining the output with the supply of money. The money supply over the period is divided into two parts anticipated part and unanticipated part. This book devotes an in depth study to examine how far and to what extent the output growth is related to the variation of anticipated and unanticipated parts of money supply in the long run as well as in the short run in the Indian economy. It has sought to detect and identify several sub periods in which structural changes in output money supply relations have occurred. The sub periods where distinct changes in the association among concerned variables are discernible may be taken for turning points in the relationship under study. The relations between output and different parts of money supply (anticipated and unanticipated) are sought to be studied over the sub periods identified. This book concludes with a suggestion that the picture obtained under research does not tell us to draw a firm conclusion about the effectiveness of monetary policy for the period concerned. There is a need for further research with the extension of data set to draw a firm conclusion over this issue. 100 pp.

Apart from consistently following WTO mandate by legislative measures India has taken up issues fearlessly on behalf of LDCs and poor developing countries. Today Indian points are heard with rapt attention in important meetings. The steady record of democracy has given India a great prestige and leadership. Regionalism has a great appeal of its own. The great increase over the recent period has given this a position of eminence. The concept of regional integration was considered eminently appropriate. The author has taken great pains to analyse its implication vis a vis investment economic growth domestic policies etc. special care has been taken to compare the Regional Integration with Bilateralism and Multilaterism. Attention of the readers has been drawn to the spate of Bilateral Agreements being drawn up by certain countries who are supposed to be great votaries of WTO. A remarkable feature of this treatise is the classification of countries. In this original contribution the entire world has been divided into five groups. On one side the USA is extending leadership to multilateral regional and bilateral issues. A second group is led by the European Community a great regional power and also supporting WTO fully. Japan a resource rich country heads the third group and is helping countries in Asia without becoming formally any regional outfit. The fourth group includes countries like China and India where all support is being given to countries particularly ASEAN without any regional trappings except marginally. Finally the fifth group countries in Russia and Africa where self interest has been the determining factor. While taking up this complex task the author has received abundant support from experts libraries the World Bank and others. 140 pp.

Revolutionary movements. 7. Conclusion. Bibliography. Index. Social Movements in Manipur is the history of the different types of mass mov…ements which were directed against the colonial British rule. It begins from the year 1917 i.e. the outbreak of the Kuki Rebelion one of the most significant tribal movements aimed against the imperialist policy of the British which continued till the end of the left movement led by late Hijam Irabot Singh (1951). Besides the book also discusses other types of movements such as Zeliangrong Movement which was another socio religious tribal movement the women's agitation of 1939 the political movement and the left movement. The most important feature of this book is that it makes an attempt to analyse these movements within the conceptual framework of social movements. This is the first book of its kind in Manipur which analyses the problem within the theoretical concept of social movements. The history of these social movements was not much known to the people and it is very significant that this edition of the book is being brought out at a time when Manipur is witnessing a political and social turmoil and the present people's movements signifying the assertion of the Manipuri identity and claiming of the area's political and social rights in modern India are very intense. 170 pp.

Some of the theoretically celebrated paths are the English path the Prussian path the American path the German Experience the Roman experience etc. Theoretically the topic is debated sufficiently and in each line of the argument empirical studies were carried out. But the epistemic underpinnings of the arguments remain obscure for the readers at large because invariably all contenders deal with them implicitly. Further it is often surmised in the received literatures of tribal agricultural transformation that non economic factors always dominate shape and determine the modus operandi of economic variables. The present study (1). Clearly highlights the epistemic reasons adhering to a particular method to study agricultural transformation and thereby it analyses the issue with a clear philosophical approach. (2). Shows that under the event of globalization market forces are capable to release the economic variables to operate as per market principles and therefore they confer freedom particularly to labour through developing the labour market. Based on a large survey of 277 tribal households of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh the study has a wider relevance in terms of application to different areas of tribal concentration in the north east in particular and the country as a whole. 140 pp.

Indian Constitution and Social Justice in Mizoram a study/P. Chakraborty. Index. Justice is dynamic/changing. It requires a just state of affairs. In aligns with morality and proper distribution of favours and losses. This is possible by a democratic social order. This book deals with two systems of justice viz. custom based justice and modern legal justice based on the rule of law operating side by side which create mess/hutch putch. The custom based justice is uncodified. The modern legal justice is carried out by the state court as per the justice rules of 1937 framed by the colonial rulers. Crime had previously been almost absent in the Mizo Society. Presently crimes of different nature (criminal and civil) are increasing owing to the enlarging money economy the loosening of social bonds the emergence of classes of the neo middle rich and the poor and the concentration of wealth at the top and poverty at the bottom of the social hierarchy. The book emphasises more thrust on legislation and trail of cases by the State Courts rather than the District Councils Courts trying cases by uncodified customary laws and also suggests to streamline the existing judicial administration in order to have an uniform and impartial justice. The complete separation of executive and judiciary to achieve the objective of justice is suggested. The book which includes fourteen articles/research papers deals objectively with a theoretical concept of judicial administration various issues challenges/problems and constraints pertaining to judicial administration and also provides policy insights for the future and will be highly useful and valuable. The study briefly is an invaluable guide/help to the further research on the subject. 145 pp.

Each and every indigenous community possesses a specific wisdom within a distinct domain in which their sustenance activities are limited and this great heritage of folk knowledge clearly reflects a scientific base which may be termed as ethno science. The present treatise is on the Abujh Maria a primitive tribal group of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh who are shifting hill cultivators and are confined in a particular territory known as Abujhmarh. The life and culture of the Abujh Marias are also cherished under the lap of forest environment. Behind all shadow of beliefs some kind of concept of science is reflected which in turn controls their livelihood and surrounding niche. With this wisdom they not only exploit the natural resources but also conserve and preserve their biodiversity. The close co relationship has been highlighted between their terrestrial set up and celestial world which ultimately has an impact on their subsistence economy and eventually it leads to restrict their family size. Due to their prolonged association with forest environment they have also developed a folk knowledge with scientific explanation which helps them during their ailment where various kinds of local herbs plants tubers and roots etc. at their niche are applied. Hardbound. Condición: As New. New. Contents Acknowledgement. Preface. 1. A perspective on household fertility behaviour and children's schooling formulation of the problem. 2. Profile of the study area. 3. Conceptual framework of the study. 4. Results and discussion. 5. Summary conclusions and suggestions. Bibliography. Index. T…he dominant fertility research agenda stresses the socio economic perspective of the effects of socio economic structural factors on fertility decline. A large number of studies based upon correlation and regression analyses on fertility and on children's educational attainments have been carried out on a wide variety of the cross sectional data from both economic and sociological points of view. An important implication of these theories is the emergence of a hypothesised negative quantity quality trade off which maintains that quantity and quality of children would interact because parents desire approximately equal level of quality for each of their children. However despite a variety of theoretical and empirical formulations on the subject household fertility and children's schooling remain perplexing issues. It is therefore imperative that micro demographic studies on the diverse socio economic cultural groups are undertaken in order to further enrich knowledge in this area. It is with this view that efforts are made in this study to identify the socio economic factors which influence the household fertility behaviour and household demand for children's education. Attempts have also been made to find out interrelationship if any between fertility and children's education in the context of a developing tribal society. 146 pp.
